Spark Design provided architectural and interior design services for the Alaska Heart Institute’s existing lobby, waiting room and reception area. The proposed solution re-configures patient flow utilizing changes in flooring and multiple furniture groupings to clearly define circulation paths. The strategic use of materials and lighting increases the visibility of the reception and patient check-in areas. Soft lighting, textured walls and accent colors help to soften an otherwise sterile environment. To reflect the surrounding boreal forest, a birch tree feature wall is integrated into the waiting room. This reference to the existing natural site is carried throughout the suite graphically. The design team provided a design that also features cost-effective upgrades to the multi-level facility to enhance the way-finding experience. In conjunction with a local representative, a furniture package was customized to meet the needs of the Alaska Heart Institute. Spark Design’s close collaboration with the Owner has resulted in a new identity for this existing medical office suite.
