Caribou Inn Replacement Hotel
Deadhorse, Alaska

This 150 bed hotel located on the North Slope of Alaska will be utilized by tourists and North Slope employees alike. The design concept is based on a contrast between the warmth of an Alaskan Lodge and the unrefined, rugged nature of oil rigs and pipeline infrastructure. In addition to 150 hotel rooms, the program requires a large commercial kitchen, dining area, living area, recreation area and conference space. Logistics of design and construction in this extreme and remote environment required a modular and creative solution. Special attention was paid to material selections and construction detailing appropriate in this harsh climate. Given the nature of a design-build project, Spark Design worked hand-in-hand with Alutiiq, llc to ensure the modular units were sized appropriately for transportation.
